Cradle This sculpture emerges out of an extended period of research into the way women’s stories have been woven or unstitched from Dartmoor’s history; how, like the rich peatlands that carpet the moor, these women are often regarded as unstable, irrational, or ‘requiring improvement’. Using the endemic Molinia grass that signals a landscape off kilter, Cradle is a leaky vessel for gathering stories, for amplifying the asymmetries of this landscape.
Made for 'Cartogaphies of Care: An exhibition of Women/Land/Art' at Southcombe Barn, this piece is exhibited outside in a sylvan setting, alongside works by Susanna Bauer, Rebecca Chesney, Iman Datoo, Edie Evans, Alice Hackney, Arabel Labrusan, Lucia Pizzani, Vivian Ross-Smith and SHARP.
