A vertiginous and temporal understanding of scale was something I was keen to evoke in my installation ghost stream at Yarner Woods. In this work I was influenced by memories of flow and journey as shown in the film, source but importantly also the dwarfing experience of the Gorge du Verdon in France and valleys in the Italian and Austrian Alps. I wanted to create a landscape in microcosm, and also introduce elements of the uncanny to an experience of landscape. Mist is an element I return to again and again, but its swelling movement and elevated course down the stream also evokes the immersive trajectory of source, which was exhibited at the same event.
